I’m HUNGRY!! Besides hearing this from your children, have you ever heard this phrase? Maybe you have, maybe you haven’t. Seems like I hear it often. My snack cabinet cannot keep up with the demanding requests of my growing sons. It never fails that by the end of the week, I am back at Target grabbing more snacks. They are hungry, hungry.
Simply put, so am I. My favorite thing about following Jesus is that He can speak to me in simple moments. As I fill up my cart with snacks for my kids, I feel a call to fill up carts alongside this generation–to fill the cart with something that will satisfy the hunger. There is nothing like eating something and still feeling hungry. Jesus parallels our physical hunger with spiritual hunger.
One day, I opened up my bible just to see a glimpse of who He is and He kept showing me hunger, hunger, hunger. I noticed how just as we wouldn’t go to the store and intentionally buy rotten fruit, He wouldn’t want to satisfy our hunger with something perishable. He has a way with giving his sons and daughters nutrients that endure.

Hunger, according to a quick search is simply defined as a lack of food. So for us to be living in a spiritually hungry time, something is lacking. What is missing? Why are so many people lacking in their spiritual walk? I feel the hunger is so real today and yet we sometimes don’t even know how to satisfy it. We are spiritually eating perishable food! In so many lives I think people are truly hungry for the real thing, Jesus, they just don’t know how to find the real Jesus. They settle for something the enemy sets on their table. Check this out–
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:35
I don’t feel like overcomplicating this. The gospel is so simple. I feel like this verse is our answer. If we live in a hungry generation, something is lacking. What is lacking? People coming to Him. He is the food that never spoils. We have a part as His sons and daughters to help fill up some carts. It is our privilege to create a space for people to encounter Jesus. I feel like when people have their own encounter with Him, they will never be the same. He is ready to satisfy hunger on a very personal level with His creation. WOW! Lets help others get passionate to seek food of eternal life, it never spoils.
